Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy is a health care profession primarily concerned with remediation of impairments and Disability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical interventions. (i.e Electrotherapeutic and Exercise Therapy measures). Physiotherapy involves the interaction between therapists, patient, other health care professionals, families, care givers and communities in a process where movement potentials are assessed, diagnosed and goals are achieved.
Physiotherapists diagnose and treat individuals from all ages new born to elderly with medical problems or other health related conditions, illness or injuries that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities.
Physiotherapy is a professional career which has many specialties including sports, neurology, orthopaedics, pediatrics, cardiopulmonary, Gynae and obstetrics, wound care, EMG, Manipulations and recently Emergency Physiotherapy.
Educational Qualification in Physiotherapy can be from Graduation i.e B.P.T. to Post Graduation in any speciality i.e. M.P.T. to Ph.D.
History of Physiotherapy - Physicians like Hippocrates and later Galenus are believed to have been the first practioners of Physiotherapy advocating massage, manual therapy and hydro therapy techniques to treat people in 460 BC.
